A. R. Rahman



Born on January 6, 1967 in Chennai, A. R. Rahman is a well known composer, record producer, music director, singer, instrumentalist and arranger from India.
He won 2 Oscars at the 81st Academy awards on February 22, 2009 for the categories 'Best Song' and 'Best Original Score' for "Slumdog millionaire".
He was born as A. S. Deelip Kumar to a music composer and conductor for Malayalam films, R. K. Sekhar. He lost his father at a young age of 9. He converted to Islam along with his mother and sisters in 1989 after a serious illness that affected his sister and an encounter with a Sufi teacher.

He has been awarded Padma shri from the Government of India.

Bahot Shukriya...





Sashadhar Mukherjee, Producer of Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, was Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar's brother-in-law, being married to their sister, Sati Rani. He was also instrumental in getting Ashok Kumar into films. His children are Rono Mukherjee, Joy Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee (Kajol's father), Shibani Maulik and Subir Mukherjee.

Rani Mukerji's grandfather, Ravindramohan Mukherjee was Sashadhar's older half brother. Sashadhar had two more brothers, film director Subodh Mukherjee , who was the producer of Munimji (1955) , Paying Guest (1957) , Love Marriage (1959) , Junglee (1961) , April Fool (1964), Saaz Aur Awaaz(1966) and film producer Prabodh Mukherjee.

In the 1950s Sashadhar launched his own production company called Filmalaya in Andheri, near Amboli. He also started an acting school which introduced actresses like Asha Parekh and Sadhana to Bombay film industry. Nasir Hussain(Asha Parekh was said to be romantically involved with him), R. K. Nayyar ( Sadhana married him) and Gyan Mukherjee were directors that worked with his productions.

He introduced his son Joy and Sadhana Shivdasani with the film Love in Simla(1960). Leader(1964-Dilip Kumar & Vyjayantimala) was his last production.

Ek Musafir Ek Hasina was directed by Raj Khosla (C. I.D. and Woh kaun thi fame).
