Ghazab kiya tere wade pe aitbaar kiya...

Daag Dehlvi داغ دہلوی

Nawab Mirza Khan Daagh (نواب مرزا خان) was born in 1831 in Delhi. He lost his father at a young age and was raised by his step father, Mirza Muhammed Fakhroo (heir to Bahadur Shah Zafar). In 1865, Daag left Delhi for Rampur where he joined government service and lived comfortably. He spent the later part of his life in Hyderabad.

Daag started reciting poetry at the age of ten. His forte was ghazal. He was a romantic shayar and he shunned wine.
Daag Dehlvi passed away in 1905.

I have attempted one of his very popular ghazals made unforgettable by Rafi Sahab. Music director is Khayyam.

Ghazab kiyaa, tere vaade pe aitabaar kiyaa
tamaam raat qayaamat kaa i.ntezaar kiyaa

ha.Nsaa ha.Nsaa ke shab-e-vasl ashk-baar kiyaa
tasalliyaa.N mujhe de-de ke beqaraar kiyaa

ham aise mahv-e-nazaaraa na the jo hosh aataa
magar tumhaare taGaaful ne hoshiyaar kiyaa

fasaana-e-shab-e-Gam un ko ek kahaanii thhii
kuchh aitabaar kiyaa aur kuchh naa-aitabaar kiyaa

Paras,
Wah! Dil, khush kar diya. What a choice of Ghazal to begin this New Year. Sincerely, you have sung so nicely that mere pass koyi alfaaz nahi hai. I must be listening this ghazal after a long time and your clarity, diction and expression is totally outstanding. It's very rare that people attempt such ghazals and you have sung very nicely.

Rafi and Khayyam were the only two names familiar to me in this post, but I must say you sang it very well. It inspired me to search for the original and listen :) Hopefully I ll find the original one...

Well sung! It was one of my favorites when I was more young!

I have listened to your Waqt ne Kiya..today.That too is also well sung.

I don't know if you know that Jagjeet Singh has sung a few of his favorite old songs in his album- Close to my Heart. He has sung them very well. If you like his singing then do down load that album and listen..It has one of the finest music arrangements by Deepak Pandit-his violinist.

Keep it up!

What a rendition ! paras..Awesome !!!

Deblina... thanks for listening to this ghazal and your kind remarks.

I was very surprised that so many people have not heard the original ghazal, since it is among Rafi Sahab's (if not #1) top 2-3 non filmi ghazals.
I am glad I made a humble attempt at reviving this "not to be forgotten- ghazal" by Daag+Khayyam+Mohammed Rafi.

Sowmya...thanks for your support!

Hi Dr. Parasmani,
Haven't heard this song before or the name Daag Dehlvi. I'm bit educated now. Thanks.

Parasmaniji, this is too wonderful, I mean the way you have rendered this lovely ghazal. It is the most popular non-filmy ghazal by Rafi Sahab and you have done full justice to it. It has been my favourite too for ages.

Caught me by surprise -and a pleasant one at that. I had heard Rafi Sahaab's Ghazab Kiya in the Sixties - and now.

A lovely selection beautifully rendered, Parasmaniji!
