Geeta Dutt was born in 1930 into a zamindār's family as Geeta Ghosh Roy Chowdhuri in Faridpur, India(now in Banglādesh).
In 1942, her parents moved to Dādar, Bombay when she was twelve. There, composer/music director Hanumān Prasād once heard her singing casually, and was impressed. He introduced her in a chorus song in Bhakta Prahlād (1946), where she sang only two lines. The following year, she got a major assignment as a playback singer for Do Bhāi, and then on she was recognised as one of the top playback singers in Bombay film industry.

I thank Azam for singing this duet with me.
Movie: Pyaasa (1957)

Good Lord..Paras! I've been telling you.It was Geeta Dutt all the way: Dusara Janam..Avatar..Abehoob! Woh Asaaniyat, Meethaas,Labzoki Ghatao Mein Chupee Hui Masti...or woh Ruhani Shiqva --Gazab Kar Diya Aaapki Shararati Shikayatone.Mere Dost, Tujhe Nagmon Ki Jaan Fazooliyat Mein Nahi Kehte! Waqai!
Aur Azammian? Unke bare mein to jo bhi kaho, kum hain.Ye Awaaz Dard ke Mare Mutmaeen Awaam ko Baqayda Sukun Dilati Hain hain.Ye Halaq--jo Maalik ki Dein Hain--use Sarhad-e-Tareef ki Bediyon Mein Giraftar Karna Namumkin Hain.

Simply wonderful singing as usual.
You both brought back those hazy reminiscences of my early days listening the ever green music on the radio. This proves that the melody ruled and you both have done an amazing job for reviving back the true melody. Very well sung and really enjoyed listening!
