Raag Pilu

That: Kafi
Jaati: Audav-Sampurna
Vadi swar: G
Samvadi swar: N
Aroha: 'N-S-g-m-P-N-S'
Avroha: S'-n-D-P-d-P-g-'S
Time: Anytime is fine

Asha Bhosle is a very versatile singer. These three songs are in raag Pilu, composed by three very important music directors in her life, S. D. Burman, O. P. Nayyar and R. D. Burman, who shaped her career and helped her become "a Force to be reckoned with".

I have attempted solos from "Bandini" and "Mere Sanam" and a duet from "Yaadon ki baraat". I thank Azam for lending his voice for "Chura liya". He is charismatic, as always.

"Abke Baras" very well expressed and touched my heart. All the songs from Bandini are very close to my heart and you have poured out your heart in singing. Well sung!

Enjoyed listening Jaiye and Chura Liya with Azam. Very nice!

Paras, another post with a selection of beautiful songs and a thoughtful order of presentation! Diverse compositions, yet moods transition, with uplifted spirits, from one song to another song smoothly!

I heard "Ab ke Baras" the first time. The grief and sorrow expressed in it grabs you by the heart and squeeze the tears out of it. Love it. SD Burman and Shailendra at their best!

My personal favorite is "Jaiye Aap Kahan". A touch of desparation, yet full of hope and confidence! Amazing masterpiece by OPN and Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Thanks for posting "Chura Liya" with me. The last song in the sequence that leaves you in a pleasant mood, appreciating RDB!

Hi Paras,

Ab Ke Baras is beautiful!.You have sung it with the perfect touch of melancholy.Jaaiye aap is the best though! Its a pretty difficult song. The way you have sung the alaaps and captured the minute harkatein of Asha-ji's voice is beautiful!
ChuraLiya-You and Azam sound great in this sweet popular song!
Keep singing!

3 different songs, 3 different moods, 3 different MDs....1 raag....1 singer. Lovely choices!

I remember how much you wanted to have Piloo SoW theme during our committee's tenure. Happy to see it on your blog!

Liked all 3 renditions, Jaiye Aap Kahan the best. I always liked the way you captured the correct 'mood' of the song, and instilled just the correct 'amount of feelings' to it. Bravo!

Asim....Thanks. Yes, I was trying to combine fun with learning, for SoW. Any raag would have been fun.

Shantha...Thank you..
"Ab ke baras" is from the film "Bandini" directed by Bimal Roy. It depicts the lives of women imprisoned under different circumstances..including the heroine, Nutan. There is usually not one dry eye in the movie hall when this song is playing.
And I agree...Azam has sung his lines so well in "Chura liya" :) .

Awesome... I must say, this was simply too good...! I heard "AB KE BARAS" because my mom used to sing it, but now she's not able to sing because of some problem... And believe me, my eyes were moist by the time the song reached completion...! You have really done awesome job!!!
